Summer vacancies plague holiday rental spots

Real estate agents are forced to lower rates because of summer rental house vacancies.

Latest Sign in Summer-Home Markets: Vacancy
In summer-rental spots around the country, a number of houses sit vacant and owners may be ready to make a deal. Many agencies say they are offering discounts for the last two months of the season. Prices have dropped by as much as 25% in Cape Cod, Mass. In New Jersey's oceanside-resort towns, where rental volume has fallen about 15% since 2003, Childers Sotheby's International Realty is giving discounts of as much as 25% for some homes. In South Carolina, Hilton Head Rentals & Golf has cut 15% to 20% off its remaining one-to-two-bedroom listings.

Travel vacancies can now be searched over the Web

Travel vacancies can now be searched through various websites around the world.

Searching for a travel job on the internet is quick and easy - and you can browse at your leisure away from prying eyes in the office. I looked at six sites: C&M, New Frontiers, Travelworld Selection, Stepstone, Harp Wallen and TopJobs on the Net.

Not surprisingly, the travel recruitment specialists elicited the most vacancies in retail, business travel and tour operations. The general jobs sites may boast vast numbers of vacancies but they are very widespread, although useful if you are looking to move to another industry or country. Both Stepstone (www.stepstone.com) and Top Jobs on the Net (www.TopJobs.net) feature jobs throughout Europe.
